Born and raised in the Bay Area, I was surrounded by a diverse, creative energy that led me to develop an artistic expression as a child that later evolved into a passion for design as an adult. While I’ve been inspired by many different art forms throughout my life, my favorites include drawing and painting. Although I’m a graphic artist, I have always gravitated towards fine art and look up to artists such as Kahlo, Van Gogh and Monet who express themselves so eloquently. There’s this sincerity that comes with creating a story by hand and I wish to bring that heart and soul into the digital world.
My biggest inspiration which is often overlooked by some is purely life itself. Every experience, even the ones that seem unimportant in the moment, inform my perspective. This can range from traveling with my family and friends to exploring new boba spots in my hometown to enjoying a night in with my cats. A story exists behind every encounter and if I’m lucky, there’s something to be felt and learned from.
My design philosophy is to gain trust by portraying a message that many can connect with and relate to. It’s important to me that people explore the narratives in my work and discover their own story within. My name is Aliyah Ayala and I am a graphic designer, recently graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
